Phase 3

Bringing some exciting additions to the GND REC

  • Parking lot with sidewalks and outdoor lighting

Phase Three was started in 2019 and has brought a state-of-the-art Skateboard Park designed by nationally recognized skate park designer Mark Leski, aka “The Wizard of Wizard Works” to the Gary-New Duluth community. The Skatepark design is unique to the city and the region. The Skatpark has been completed and is open to the public. Not only does this park give local skateboarders an exciting new facility, but it will, and already has, attracted skateboarders from around the region.

Additionally, the remainder of Phase Three which features a new outdoor gazebo installed by IronWorkers 512 in 2023 and a new parking lot with landscaping has been completed.

matching grant challenge raised above our goal ! Final total raised  $28,535!

SUCCESS! We met and succeeded our target for our matching challenge grant.  It is humbling how giving our community is and we greatly appreciate all who donated.

We value and take pride in our community and each of its members, education, physical activity, and our environment, those who promote positive actions and give back to our community and appreciate the opportunity to have fun as we promote service in our community and strong personal relationships between its members.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

The GND Community Center and Recreation Area is dedicated to providing a place to be used by members of the community for social, cultural, learning and recreational purposes.

The community is in a period of transition with many new people moving to the community. The GND REC provides the catalyst for bringing the community together, benefiting young people and seniors alike while instilling an overall sense of pride throughout the community.
