February 27 - February 28

All classes from Stowe elementary head over to the Rec Center to pick out new and used books from a huge collection provided for them to take home to keep and share. The Duluth Police Department is there as well to meet the kids.  Each class has a Q&A session with Duluth Police officers, and they get to check out the squad car. Community leaders stop in and hang out with the children as well.

The volunteers provide beverages and cookies.  This is a wonderful, fun, heartwarming annual event. The Gary-New Duluth Development Alliance provides the books

We value and take pride in our community and each of its members, education, physical activity and our environment, those who promote positive actions and give back to our community, and appreciate the opportunity to have fun as we promote service in our community and strong personal relationships between its members.

Because of the incredible generosity of the Duluth community and beyond, we have raised the following in cash and in kind contributions of labor, services and materials.  Our citizens, businesses, trade unions, foundations and the City of Duluth have been truly amazing in their support.

The GND Community Center and Recreation Area is dedicated to providing a place to be used by members of the community for social, cultural, learning and recreational purposes.

The community is in a period of transition with many new people moving to the community. The GND REC provides the catalyst for bringing the community together, benefiting young people and seniors alike while instilling an overall sense of pride throughout the community.

We can’t get this project completed without your help!
