Our electricians, Jim Petrich and Jim Morris, have completed the installation of nine new LED lights and two ceiling fans in the main area of the GND REC.  Great job! The lights were provided by the City.  What a difference!

Volunteers have installed three, custom made door frames for the restrooms and office.  The frames were provided by Sell Hardware.  Doors from Central High School will be hung.

Engineering drawings for the new parking lots and upgrading 101st Ave West have been completed and provided to City engineering for review.

Remember the murals on the walls of the “shack”?  Thanks to Mike Anderson we still have them.

As you can see, March has been a very busy month! We have accomplished so much, and could not have done so without the support of some amazing people. With all that has been done, there is so much more to do, and we cannot do so without your continued support!

February Progress at the GND REC

Painting the interior of the recreation building aka “the shack” is nearly complete.  Jon Anderson and members of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Barry Ives and Chris Ghekiere, are working hard to freshen up the interior.  It looks great! Thank you for all of your hard work! Plumbing work continues as does the installation of indoor lighting and electrical fixtures. Because of amazing people like these guys, "the shack" is starting to look as amazing as it once was.

Special thanks to the Duluth Public Schools ISD 709 and specifically Kerry Lieder and his team for their contribution to our project.  Numerous, needed surplus items including but not limited to; plumbing fixtures, cabinets and furniture were donated for the building remodel.

Please don't forget that we will be having a fundraising dinner at the American Legion in West Duluth on 13 March from 4 to 7 pm.  Music will be provided by Mark Rubin and Family. The poster advertising for our dinner was created by Graphic Artist, Kayla Petrich, a 2008 graduate of Denfeld High School Part of her design was used in the creation of the billboard advertising the event.  Also, Jack Rendulich a 1971 graduate of Morgan Park High School, took the photo of Mark and Nancy Rubin that is on the billboard! We hope to see you there and please bring a friend or two!

Mark Your Calendars! Fundraising Event

January Progress at the GND REC

January Progress at the GND REC

Work at THE GND REC (“the shack”) continues. After a busy holiday season volunteers are back at work remodeling the existing structure. This month we focused on the electrical inside the building, making sure that all electrical lines and outlets are up to code and functioning properly. We greatly appreciate the contributions of Duluth Electrical Contracting and the IBEW members both current and retired who are doing the work and providing materials.  Thank you for your support!

A.W. Kuettel LogoWe are pleased to announce that A.W. Kuettel & Sons has pledged to provide and install a new HVAC unit for THE GND REC.  Thank you for your support! This generous donation will go a long way towards keeping everyone who uses the new facility comfortable no matter what time of year it is! Thank you A.W. Kuettel & Sons for your support!

Andren's Paint CompanyRemodeling a building cannot be complete without paint, lots and lots of paint. The good folks at Andren’s Paint Company have pledged to provide all the paint for the building interior. Now that we have paint, we will surely be looking for volunteers to help actually paint "the shack". When we are at this stage, we will make an announcement on our Facebook page, webpage, as well as our newsletter.

Our project depends on volunteers and in-kind contributions. We would like to recognize a group of volunteers that have done the demolition work inside the building and are currently installing new sheet rock. Without their hard work (this work has literally been back breaking), the project would not be as far as it is today. We appreciate their support!
