Boldt Construction and Carpenters Local 361 Donate Time and Talents to The GND Rec Project

The GNDDA has completed some additional concrete work at The GND Rec site to address ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements. In addition, a couple of concrete pads for porta potties and a future bicycle rack were also completed. Boldt Construction coordinated the work (personnel on site included Mark Langenbrunner and Matt Haskins). The Carpenters Local 361 again provided one of its apprentices, Bhar Tribby, to assist with the work helping us and the project reduce our costs! Thank you!

GND Rec Partners with the YMCA

The GND Rec is happy to announce its partnership with the Duluth Area Family YMCA! The GND Rec is the perfect place for YMCA to extend its services and infuse its mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This partnership will also allow the GND Rec to continue to live out its mission of creating social, cultural, learning and recreational activities for area residents.

The YMCA began working with the GND Rec on August 1, 2016 and the first step was to continue the summer youth drop-in program aimed at helping youth in the community avoid the summer learning gap that happens so often.  The Y is currently working with the community to identify program needs and to get things in motion. Some of the programs that will be offered out of the GND Rec are:

  •  Birthday Parties
  •  Parent/Tot time
  •  Diabetes Prevention Program
  •  Active Older Adult Classes
  •  Drop-in After School Program

Please look for more programming, classes and opportunities throughout the year. In the meantime stop by and say "hi" to Marshall and Billie your YMCA Program Coordinators. Also please join us on Facebook at "Gary New Duluth Community Center and Recreation Area" for the latest news, project updates, classes and community events!

GND Rec Pavilion

The signature feature of the GND Development Alliance project is the pavilion. This is a view of the project and the pavilion as you drive down 102nd Ave West toward the recreation area.

Pavilion view from Commonwealth Avenue.

The GND REC pavilion has been erected with its roof on thanks to Iron Workers Local 512 apprentices; Mickey Eyer, Kyle Bean, Garrett Almer, Wade Almer, Dan MacMillan, Kent Manning, Garrett Amer, Joe Porter, Chris Constance, Nick Mattson and Tyler O'Beirne. Also Russ Whitehouse – Retired Iron Worker provided his expertise. The work was coordinated by BOLDT Construction. Thank you for your support for our project and our community!
