Install New Waterline

COMPLETE!

551 feet of six inch water line with a hydrant and 2 inch lines to the GND REC were required and installed. 

Renovate existing building - Community Center

COMPLETE!

The existing building, fondly known as the “shack” has been rebranded as the GND REC, completely renovated and reopened.The newly renovated GND REC opened in June 2015.  It quickly became a centerpiece for community activities for children through seniors.

Dog Park

CONSTURCTION UNDERWAY

The Gary New Duluth community is very pet friendly. The new Gary New Duluth Community Center and Recreation Area will feature a perimeter path to walk your dog, a fenced interior, shade structures, water service, and dedicated parking.

The dog park area has been cleared and wood chips spread. 

Soccer Fields

 

COMPLETE!

The baseball field has been completely redone turning it into soccer fields.  The baseball backstop has been revised smaller and a home plate area installed so pick up baseball games can be held.  Drain pipes have been installed under the fields, an irrigation system installed and sports turf laid. The Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association will utilize the fields for practices and games. 

Open Turf Play Area / Pleasure Ice Skating Area

COMPLETE!

The open turf play area has been completed with drain pipes installed, an irrigation system installed and sports turf laid. It is anticipated that ice skating will start the winter of 2017/2018.

Open Air Pavilion / Bandstand

COMPLETE!

An open air pavilion / bandstand has been purchased and installed.

Skateboard Park

DESIGN WORK IS ONGOING

A skateboard park being designed by a nationally recognized skate park designer, Mark Leski, aka “The Wizard”, is envisioned for the site.  Draft designs have been created and are under review. The existing skateboard ramps are in poor condition but are constantly in use.  The proposed skate park will attract people from throughout the City and the region.

Sport Court

ESTIMATE RECEIVED

The new facility will feature a multi-use sport court. This new court will allow area youth and community members to play a variety of sports.

Community Garden

PLANNING UNDERWAY

The ability to grow fruits & vegetables and also provide an opportunity to teach young people about gardening and others to have the ability to raise fresh produce.

Disc Golf

The wooded land adjacent and north of the designated GND Recreation Area is envisioned for disc golf and walking trails with benches.

Biking

A place for bikers to stop, rest & enjoy the amenities offered by the park with the extension of the trail / bikeway system to Fond du Lac / along the St. Louis River and future bike lanes on Commonwealth Avenue.   

Storage Building

COMPLETE!

A new concrete wall storage building has been constructed.

Parking Lot

COMPLETE!

The Phase I parking lot which using pervious pavers in the parking spaces and been completed.

Trails

COMPLETE!

The Phase I trails have been blacktopped. 

Outdoor Lighting

COMPLETE!

The Phase I lamp posts have been installed along the trails and parking lot. 

Rain Garden

COMPLETE!

A rain garden north of the parking lot has been constructed to assist with drainage issues.  Many trees, bushes, ornamental grasses, etc. have been planted.
